The Information Systems & Services Department is searching for a Director of Infrastructure and Operations for Information Services. This is a regular full-time position and is eligible for benefits. Job Summary: Reporting to the Senior Director for Information Services, provides leadership in information technology at the Institution and is responsible for delivering information technology services in support of the network, telecommunications, servers, storage, and end-user technology services. Major Duties: Directs Information Services groups and vendors responsible for the development and support of Information Services in the areas of servers and file storage, networking and telecommunications, and end user support. Directly supervises the manager of servers and storage, the manager of networks and telecommunications, and the manager of end user technologies. May supervise other IS employees performing technology support roles and those developing applications as directed by the Senior Director. Oversees engagements by external vendors and contractors working to support IS Infrastructure and operations to ensure that qualified companies are selected, work is managed effectively and that charges are appropriate. Acts as part of the IS leadership and management team Develops appropriate procedures, road maps and strategies to support research and administrative computing by providing reliable, efficient and secure infrastructures and operations. Ensures effective use and development of infrastructure technologies including integrated high speed internet access and telecommunications, information servers, cloud-based technologies, and distributed computing environments. Maintains positive working relationships throughout the Institution and its partner community. Provides infrastructure related information services through contracts or other billable services as requested. Performs other duties as required. Desired Education/Experience for Hiring: Advanced degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in computing and information services. Experience in a non-profit research and education environment is desired. In-depth experience with complex, open-source, distributed computing environments is desired. Demonstrated experience and skills in the following areas: data center operations, telecommunications, local and wide area network technology, server and storage administration, vendor selection and management. Strong management and technical skills are essential. Programming and database expertise is desirable. A track record of at least five to ten years of demonstrably successful leadership in information services is required. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to distinguish basic colors. Mostly sedentary work. Occasional standing/walking required.
